Lauren Lavenia

IB Coordinator

My name is Lauren LaVenia, and I am so fortunate to serve as the Beechwood Middle School literacy coach and International Baccalaureate coordinator!  I am a native South Carolinian and a product of Lexington County public schools. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Education in Secondary Education (English) from the University of South Carolina.  My certifications include English, Literacy Teacher, and Middle-Level Language Arts, and I have endorsements in Gifted and Talented Education, Read to Succeed (R2S) Literacy Coach, and R2S Literacy Teacher. I began my teaching career in 1997 in Lexington Two where I taught English language arts in grades six through eight and English I in grade eight.  Since moving to Lexington One, I have served as the literacy coach at Pelion Middle School and the literacy coach and IB coordinator at Lexington Middle School. My husband, Chris, and I have two Chihuahuas, Cowboy and Czar. As a family, we enjoy boating, camping, and fishing. I also love reading and cooking. Dupre Young

Librarian

I am Dupre Young and I am the librarian at Beechwood Middle School. I am a graduate of the University of South Carolina and I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a Master of Library and Information Science degree. I am certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in the area of Library Media. I began my career in Lexington County School District Four and moved to Lexington County School District One in 1992. I have worked at Lexington Intermediate School and Lexington Middle School. I love my work as a librarian. I also enjoy reading, working puzzles, traveling, and spending time on Lake Murray. My email address is dyoung@lexington1.net.


Meghan Blackburn

Digital Learning Coach

My name is Meghan Blackburn, and I am the Digital Learning Coach (DLC) at Beechwood Middle School.  I began my career as a special education teacher in Richland Lexington Five in 2006 and have held a variety of teaching roles since that time.  My professional credentials include a master’s degree in special education from the University of SC and National Board of Professional Teaching Standards Certification in Early Childhood Literacy.  I am also a member of the Apple Distinguished Educator Class of 2017 and a Google Certified Teacher. I live in Chapin with my husband (Nick), daughter (Addisyn), and Boston Terrier (Daisy). We love boating on Lake Murray, traveling, and doing things as a family.  I am excited about being at BMS and supporting our teachers in integrating technology into the classroom in innovative ways that engage all learners.
