I have been teaching since 2011, and I am excited to be at Beechwood! I earned my bachelor’s degree in elementary education from USC and my master’s in education from the American College of Education. I earned my Masters +30 in literacy. I am Elementary and Middle-Level ELA certified. I am married and have two young sons, two rescue dogs, and a horse. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, and being outdoors. I am excited to join the Beechwood staff. I began teaching in 1996. Most recently, I taught eighth grade ELA and English I at Pleasant Hill Middle. I have taught middle school, high school, and college English/Language Arts courses. I am very excited about the 2019-2020 school year at Beechwood Middle School, and I look forward to working with you and your child to provide the best possible learning experience. I have six years of teaching experience. I taught four years in Tennessee, one year in preschool and three years in 7th-grade ELA. I moved to SC after marrying my husband in 2017. I taught 6th-grade math for two years at Crossroads Intermediate School in Irmo before coming to Beechwood this year! I have a teacher’s certificate for elementary education and middle-level mathematics. I have a South Carolina endorsement to teach gifted and talented students. I earned an undergraduate degree in elementary education with a minor in mathematics from Tennessee Wesleyan University. I earned this degree because of a dual athletic scholarship in basketball and cross country. I will be the girls’ basketball coach here at Beechwood. Family is very important to me. Over the summer, I gave birth to my daughter, Caroline. I enjoy spending every second I can with her and the rest of my family. Aside from family, my two major passions are teaching and coaching. I am very excited about the upcoming year at Beechwood Middle School! I grew up in Michigan and moved to South Carolina after graduating from Central Michigan University in 2011. I earned my Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education, majoring in mathematics. I furthered my education with a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from CMU. My husband, Patrick Burnett, teaches at Meadow Glen Middle School and coaches football at River Bluff High School. I am honored and excited to be a Bengal at Beechwood Middle School! In addition to teaching seventh-grade science, I am a sponsor for the BMS Student Council. I began my teaching career in 2007-2008 at Ooltewah Middle School in sixth-grade science. My family and I moved from Tennessee to Mississippi to South Carolina and are happy to call Lexington our home. I have also taught 8th-grade science at Pleasant Hill Middle School. I graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a Bachelor of Science in Middle Grades Education and went on to get my Master of Science in Education. My SC endorsements include 5-8 grade science, math, ELA, and social studies with Highly Qualified Status in science. I started teaching in 2003 after I graduated from Winthrop University. After graduating from Winthrop, I stayed in the Rock Hill area and taught at Sullivan Middle and Rawlinson Road Middle as an 8th-grade science teacher. Starting in 2007, I began teaching 7th-grade science at Gilbert Middle School and absolutely fell in love with the seventh-grade science content. In 2013, I received my master’s in divergent learning from Columbia College.

I am very proud to be a member of the BMS family. This is my eighteenth year of teaching. I spent thirteen of those years teaching in Jamaica, which is my birth country. I received both my undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of the West Indies. I majored in education with a biology focus and science education. I have been teaching since 1993; I taught seventh-grade social studies at Lexington Middle before moving to Pleasant Hill Middle in 2011. I am excited to be at Beechwood Middle School and serve as the social studies department chair. I have my degree in middle grades education from UNC-Chapel Hill, with concentrations in social studies and language arts. I also have National Board Certification in Social Studies-History and am endorsed in Gifted and Talented Education.
I love spending time playing games and watching movies with my family. I have a daughter who is a junior in the Honors College at USC, and a son who is a sophomore at LHS. I enjoy reading and keeping up with current events as well.

I have been in education since 2012. From 2016 – 2018, I taught world history at White Knoll Middle School. I was at Lexington High School for the four years before that. I started the boys lacrosse program at LHS in 2013, and I am still currently the head coach. I graduated from Presbyterian College with a bachelor’s degree in history in 2010, and I also played on the lacrosse & football teams during my time there. I also attended graduate school at the University of South Carolina. I am a big Baltimore sports fan. I enjoy golfing and spending time with my family and friends.
